‘Religious Education: the state we are in’
Extended Call for Papers
Conference Papers are invited on the theme of Religious Education:the state we are in. This theme incorporates a wide range of topics that should be explored in national and international contexts:
- The
contemporary condition and status of the subject
- In political discourse
- In schools
- In the curriculum
- Political and educational Challenges to the position of the subject
- Alternatives to the subject
- The conditions
of the subject
- Re-imagining the rationale
- The nature of the subject
- Resourcing and financing
- Pressures on universities
- Ensuring a qualified teaching force
- The challenges the subject faces in a climate of educational change
Other papers related to Religious Education will also be considered
Submission of abstracts
Abstracts of around 250 words must include:
- Title of paper
- Names and institutional affiliation of presenters
- Contact email address of lead presenter
- Outline of proposed paper
Please note, the chaired paper sessions will be 30 minutes in length. The presenters will have 20 minutes to deliver the paper and this will be followed by 10 minutes of questions and discussion.
Call for proposals: 21st March.
All proposals to be sent to Stephen.McKinney@glasgow.ac.uk by the extended deadline of 3rd May, 2011.
Peer review of proposals will be undertaken by the conference academic committee.
Those who submit proposals will be notified of the outcome on 10th of May. Those who submitted to the original deadline will be notified on the 19th April.

Directions to the university can be found at: this link. The conference is at the school of Education which is in the St.Andrew's building at 11 Eldon Street [see map below].
Accommodation
There is a wide variety of accommodation available within the vicinity of the University. It is wise to check for special offers.
Hotels
- The Grosvener Hotel is in the west end and is a very attractive ten minutes walk from the School of Education
- The Belhaven Hotel in also in the west end and is 15 minute walk
- The Hilton Hotel is in the city centre and is a ten minutes walk.
- The Marriott Hotel is close to the Hilton
- The Thistle Hotel is in the city centre and is a fifteen minute walk or short ride on the underground.
